Oil painting looking down the Lancaster town hall steps towards Brock Street. Late evening, a couple chat. A deep shadow cuts across the steps diagonally to Dalton Square. Warm Lancashire stone glows below a vibrant blue sky.

Brock Street Lancaster

Oil on canvas

65 × 114 × 5 cm

£2,300

There’s a warmth to the stone in Lancaster. Much of it, quarried locally, carries those subtle yellows and pinks that shift constantly with the light.

Here, looking down Brock Street from the town tall, much of the stone sits in shadow. There is still a warmth within that coolness.

Above, the sky is built from layer upon layer of colour. Yellows, greens and blues added, scraped and worked back, while the couple on the steps of the town hall become fleeting figures within the scene.

It’s one of those ordinary moments between. Places, waiting, passing, moving on.
